A New Breakthrough in Combating Citrus Greening Disease

Unlike traditional chemical or biological control methods that directly target pathogens, this invention activates the plant’s innate immune system and stimulates its natural defense signaling pathways, thereby enhancing its resistance and self-healing capacity. With continued application, the method enables citrus trees to establish a long-term immune memory within the rhizosphere ecosystem, providing sustainable protection against HLB.

In October 2025, an invention patent application was successfully filed in Australia for a novel method of preventing and controlling citrus greening disease (Huanglongbing, HLB). This innovation integrates herbal extracts, functional microorganisms, and low-frequency energy water to create an ecological, immune-inducing approach for disease management.

Unlike traditional chemical or biological control methods that directly target pathogens, this invention activates the plant's innate immune system and stimulates its natural defense signaling pathways, thereby enhancing its resistance and self-healing capacity. With continued application, the method enables citrus trees to establish a long-term immune memory within the rhizosphere ecosystem, providing sustainable protection against HLB.

A unique highlight of this achievement lies in its ability to help citrus trees gradually develop natural antibodies against HLB through the coordinated action of herbal and microbial treatments — representing a groundbreaking solution to one of the world's most persistent challenges in citrus cultivation.

Compared with existing technologies, the invention demonstrates several major advantages:
1. Effectively suppresses the transmission chain of HLB pathogens, achieving a prevention and control rate above 95% per season;
2. Activates intrinsic disease-resistance genes in citrus plants, strengthening natural immune defense mechanisms;
3. Improves the rhizosphere micro-ecological environment and reduces fertilizer use by more than 30%;
4. Enhances fruit quality, with vitamin C content increasing by over 20%;
5. Leaves no chemical residues — a green, eco-friendly solution suitable for large-scale adoption.

Furthermore, after continuous use for 1-2 years, the method enables citrus-growing soils and rhizosphere ecosystems to establish long-term immune memory, resulting in citrus trees with lasting resistance. These trees exhibit sustained anti-infection capability and are less susceptible to re-infection by HLB pathogens.

The invention was developed by Dr. Zhu Weiping, an agronomist and microbiologist based in Guangzhou, China, together with the NEWKIS® Ecological Energy Research Team. Since 2015, the team has achieved repeated success in field trials and practical applications across Jiangxi, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hunan Provinces in China, with continuous refinement of the method.

Dr. Zhu and the NEWKIS® team are now conducting ongoing validation of the concept that fruit trees can generate antibodies against HLB infection. If confirmed, this breakthrough could pave the way for the global eradication of citrus greening disease and shape a greener, more sustainable future for the world's citrus industry.
