igus® First North American Lead Screw Manufacturing Facility in Rhode Island
The new facility, which will begin lead screw production in 2026, is poised to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce lead times for customers.
igus®, a leading manufacturer of motion plastics technology, announces the completion of a 110,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in East Providence, Rhode Island. The new facility, which will begin lead screw production in 2026, is poised to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce lead times for customers.
This manufacturing plant will serve key markets, including automation, medical equipment, packaging and conveying, additive manufacturing and intralogistics, while addressing supply chain challenges facing North American manufacturers, including:
Shorter lead times and faster delivery to customers across the continent.
Improved responsiveness to demand fluctuations and stock availability.
Risk mitigation for customer supply chains through localized production.
Local job creation supporting the Rhode Island economy.
The new facility, which underwent a comprehensive renovation starting in 2024, marks the first dryspin® lead screw production site outside of Germany and adds to igus's 350,000-square-foot Rhode Island campus. The renovation also reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 50% compared to new construction — equivalent to removing 1,400 to 4,300 cars from the road for one year.
igus Maintenance-Free Lead Screw Assemblies
"Moving production beneath our own roof here in East Providence will give us better control over our value stream and allow us to better service North American customers," says Matt Mowry, drylin® Product Manager at igus. "I am not only excited to start to roll lead screw profiles in the U.S., but equally excited to offer full machining capabilities in-house as well. This is a game-changing time for us here at igus as part of our efforts to be the easiest company to deal with in our industry."
In conjunction with the launch of its new facility, igus recently celebrated 40 years of American manufacturing by planting 40 trees — each one symbolizing a year since the company opened its U.S. headquarters in 1985. This initiative reinforces igus's commitment to environmental sustainability, including carbon-neutral production methods and recyclable, lubrication-free plastics.
