Synagro Continues to Lead the Future of Its Industry as Demonstrated in Next Sustainability Report
Company highlights achievements of 16+ million tons of residuals managed, more than 80% of residuals sent to beneficial use and ultimately avoiding more than 2 million metric tons of CO2e, thereby helping its customers have a net positive impact on people and the planet.
Synagro Technologies, Inc., North America's leading provider of sustainable solutions for biosolids, organics and residuals, is pleased to announce the release of its 2024 Sustainability Report, themed "Cultivate ~ Grow ~ Transform." The report describes how the company's journey first began with cultivating its position as North America's leading provider of sustainable solutions for biosolids, then accelerating the growth of its business and net positive environmental impacts, and now how it has entered a transformational phase to shape the future of the industry.
Last year, Synagro enabled its customers to avoid more than two million metric tons of CO2e by using its services to transform biosolids, organics and residuals into nutrient-rich fertilizer for beneficial use rather than sending those wastes to a landfill. That is more than two times the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by its operations - a true net positive impact on people and the planet.
"We will continue to lead the future of our industry - come along on our journey and learn how we are cultivating, growing and transforming our business, our communities and our planet," said Bob Preston, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Synagro.
The new report includes examples of how the company is driving growth through transformative solutions. Synagro is innovating around traditional ways to treat biosolids and investing in technology and partnerships to identify, substantiate and commercially deploy technologies that turn biosolids into valuable resources. Learn how Synagro is leading the way to transform the future of sustainable solutions for biosolids within this report.
"As we look towards the future, Synagro will continue to tackle some of the most pressing issues in our industry while innovating and partnering with like-minded organizations," said Kaivan Desai, President and Chief Financial Officer, Synagro.
Key accomplishments from 2024 include:
16+ million tons of biosolids, organics and residuals managed annually.
More than 80% of residuals transformed and sent to beneficial use.
Recycled 2.4+ billion gallons of liquid biosolids.
2+ million metric tons of CO2e avoided by transforming residuals into beneficial use.
Avoided 2 times the GHG emissions generated by its own operations.
Reduced Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 7% (year on year).
Reduced annual total recordable incident rate (TRIR) by 12%, outperforming the industry average.
Recognized by USA Today as a 2024 Top Workplace for two consecutive years.
"As Synagro continues to grow, we will look for opportunities to transform not only our company, but the future of our industry and the planet," said Kip Cleverley, Chief Sustainability Officer, Synagro.
This new report marks the third year of the company's Sustainable Growth plan, which set the ambition to be the industry leader in sustainability. The Sustainable Growth plan is built upon the three pillars - a Greener World, Passionate People and Transparent Integrity. The 2024 report outlines Synagro's achievements in each respective pillar and includes Synagro's strategies, current actions, goals, case studies and performance metrics for the calendar year ended December 31, 2024.
