Sustainable start-up Light Science Technologies announced as finalist in Vertical Farming World Awards

UK AgTech specialist Light Science Technologies (LST) has been announced as a finalist in the forthcoming 2021 Vertical Farming World Awards, in recognition of its sustainable grow light range nurturGROW.

The East-Midlands based company has been shortlisted in the Best Sustainability Initiative category, selected by a renowned panel of independent judges representing all corners of the global industry.

Recently launched, nurturGROW's unique innovation is underpinned by materials and technology that reduce the carbon footprint of indoor growers.

Made with four durable core component parts, it provides a high-performance and cost-effective solution for indoor farming, covering greenhouses, vertical farming, polytunnels and medicinal plants.  The range is 90% recyclable, minimising the amount of materials needed to drastically reduce landfill waste and is also 85% reusable, allowing growers to easily upgrade components, cost effectively and with no downtime, making it future-proof and easily maintainable.

As part of nurturGROW's sustainability initiative, LST is also reforestation partner of One Tree Planted, with one tree planted for every nurturGROW product sold. The product also aligns with five of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Affordable and clean energy; Industry, innovation and infrastructure; Sustainable cities and communities; Responsible consumption and production and Climate action.

Simon Deacon, CEO of Light Science Technologies said: "We are delighted to be a finalist in this year's Vertical Farming World Awards, widely viewed as one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the sector.

"LST is at the forefront of AgTech innovation, with a team committed to developing industry-leading technology in sustainable solutions for indoor farming. Being shortlisted and recognised on a global stage is an inspiring validation of our ambition."

The inaugural awards, organised by the food and drink experts Zenith Global, will feature headline sponsorship from Cultivatd and category sponsorship from Light Science Technologies.

Celebrating excellence and innovation across the global vertical farming industry, entries were invited in 16 categories spanning crops, technology, sustainability and commercial initiatives.

The winners will be announced during a virtual awards ceremony on Tuesday 21 September at 17.30 BST during Zenith Global's 2021 Vertical Farming World Congress as well as premiering live on YouTube.

X-Rail: reliability and resistance to environmental impurities

Rollon's X-Rail linear rails are a reliable solution in environments susceptible to impurities. Equipped with rolling elements with shaped and flat raceways, they are available in several versions: galvanized, nitrided or stainless-steel sheet metal. The latter version ensures total corrosion resistance, which is critical for hostile environments such as those found in vertical farming. Particularly innovative is the T + U configuration of the X-Rail linear rails, which can compensate for the parallelism errors of mounting surfaces. This simplifies installation and reduces costs.
