A decade in farmland investing: successes, lessons learned and outlook at 10th annual Global AgInvesting conference

At this much anticipated event, a speaking faculty comprised of industry veterans will reflect on the last decade in farmland investment, from the significant growth to key investment regions to future opportunities.

NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Registration is now open for the 10th anniversary Global AgInvesting conference here April 23-25, 2018 at the Grand Hyatt New York. Each year, Global AgInvesting brings together close to 700 international investors, farm and fund managers, and agribusiness executives seeking to navigate the complex investment opportunities in the oldest industry in the world, and one of its most nascent asset classes.

At this much anticipated event, a speaking faculty comprised of industry veterans will reflect on the last decade in farmland investment, from the significant growth to key investment regions to future opportunities.

Attendees will hear from senior executives at leading agricultural asset management firms such as Arlon, Ceres Partners, NCH Capital, AMERRA Capital Management, Paine Schwartz Partners, US Agriculture, Prudential Agricultural Investments and many more. Speakers such as Jeff Conrad, managing principal and president of AgIS Capital LLC, will share his perspective as a pioneer in the sector, and investment officers from the Washington State Investment Board and Utah Retirement Systems will discuss pension fund perspectives on the sector. Additionally, Curt Covington, senior vice president for agricultural finance at Farmer Mac, will lead a panel on the importance of relationships in generating returns from farmland investments.

None of these participants will deny that the asset class is on a path of increased acceptance, with expectations for continued allocations. "During the last decade we began to see a voracious appetite for information and perspective about the farmland asset class from investors and their advisors," said Conrad in a recent article he authored for GAI Gazette. "We saw the NCREIF Farmland Index increase from $1.1 billion in 2008 to $8.1 billion in 2017. This growth had been fueled by a combination of new properties being added to the index combined with increased asset values. The expansion of the U.S. market was complemented by growth in other key markets around the world, including Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Europe." Conrad will continue this discussion at the event, highlighting six key trends that have shaped the farmland asset class over the last decade.
