Global Engage is pleased to announce the 7th Plant Genomics & Gene Editing Congress: Europe, taking place 21st-22nd May 2019, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This event is part of our widely-regarded Plant Genomics Series which includes an Asian and US meeting each year.
Attracting over 300 experts working in all areas of plant science, this event will examine the latest in gene editing methods for plant genomics research. CRISPR/Cas9 case studies and the very best strategies for plant genome engineering will be presented by industry leaders, experts, and pioneering academics at the forefront of plant research. Developments in gene editing, NGS, and omic technologies will all be explored for crop trait development, disease resistance, epigenetics, plant breeding, and more. Tracks dedicated to plant & soil microbiomes, and the importance of plant phenotyping in the context of bioinformatics challenges, will encourage a holistic approach to plant research; the former will focus on identifying microbes to enhance crop productivity & disease resistance, while the latter will showcase the best tools for overcoming bioinformatics bottlenecks, applicable to plant research across the board. We will also be looking to examine the impact of the ECJ’s latest interpretation of GMO regulations, and what this means for the future of gene editing research, addressing issues such as how to navigate the new legislation, and considering what alternative strategies & technologies there might be for progressing plant genomics.

The two-day event will once more combine an exhibition hall with conference proceedings, and will highlight the biggest trends and newest technologies of the global indoor agriculture industry. We are expecting the event to grow again this year, with more than 70 exhibitors forecast. For the first time, we will have two conference stages, meaning more educational content on topics from LED lighting and plant biology to indoor agriculture policy. The event will be crop-agnostic, covering produce, legal cannabis, insects, algae and other non-food crops. Participants will be able to network during extended networking breaks, during lunchtime discussions led by subject matter experts, at a drinks party on the first evening and through the dedicated event app.

What new business models will be successful, and will new players disrupt the traditional farming landscape? How can we feed more people on limited agricultural land, with limited resources? How can we best use space, light and logistics for an increasingly urban population? What can zero waste and low energy technologies contribute to food production in an urban environment? How to identify and develop innovative methods for sustainable food production? The conference will answer this kind of questions.
