Arevo launches new crop nutrition system to reduce dependency on harmful fertilisers and give growers more predictable and consistent yields
• Between 60-70% of European soil is degraded, which threatens crop productivity, reduces soil carbon storage, increases risk of nutrient and pollutant losses, and undermines biodiversity. • Despite facing continued pressure from rising input costs, farmers are looking for alternatives to traditional fertilisers to lower environmental impact and protect yields - but need assurances. • Arevo has developed single-compound crop nutrition technology that has proven efficacy and outperforms alternatives, delivering more crop per unit of nitrogen.
Umeå, Sweden, Tuesday 2nd December 2025 - Arevo, a global agtech company, is launching a new crop nutrition system to reduce a century-old dependency on harmful mineral fertilisers, and provide growers with more predictable and consistent crop yields. Arginex is a crop nutrition system that activates stronger roots - with longer hairs, greater surface area and deeper reach - and boosts overall soil health to produce resilient crops and sustainable harvests.
Factors impacting yields
According to The European Environment Agency (EEA)'s latest Europe's Environment 2025 report, 60-70% of EU soil is degraded. This degradation is impacting yields with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reporting that crop productivity has reduced by at least 10% in areas of ‘significant human-induced land degradation'.
Traditionally, mineral based fertilisers have been used by the agriculture industry to boost nutrients in soil but almost half of the synthetic fertilisers that growers use on crops go to waste, with approximately 50% lost to the environment through leaching. These fertilisers result in soil degradation, nitrogen runoff, dead zones and potent gas pollution, and excess nitrogen from agricultural sources is one of the top causes of water pollution in Europe according to the European Commission.
Arginex works differently and presents a clean break from this dependency. By combining arginine - nature's most nitrogen-rich amino acid and the type plants naturally prefer - with phosphate, Arginex forms a stable, molecularly defined compound that stays in the soil, resists leaching, and feeds crops at the root zone over time. Key benefits to Arevo's crop nutrition system include:
1. Feeds crops directly: arginine is absorbed intact, supplying a carbon bonus, via root transporters.
2. Activates root biology: supports microbial partners for better water and nutrient uptake.
3. Stays where it's needed: its positive charge binds to soil, reducing leaching and runoff.
4. Releases nutrients predictably: slow, steady delivery of nitrogen and phosphorus over time.
5. Flexible use: apply on seed, soil, or as a spray — starting from the seed and sustaining growth through the season.
"Arevo is built on a molecular-level understanding of crop nutrition," says Niklas Åström, CEO of Arevo. "Because it's non-microbial - non living - every batch of Arginex contains the exact same formula. The special formulation keeps the ingredients stable meaning that we can offer consistent performance for growers."
Rising costs and the need for proven solutions
While fertiliser costs have risen nearly 11%, contract and hire costs by 6%, and electricity by 3% from January to September this year, 31% of farmers already use biologicals and 90% intend to maintain or increase spend despite the higher price tag. But farmers' need certainty that any investments they make will work.
Arginex is backed by over a decade of research and it is the first crop nutrition technology with proven efficacy, having demonstrated measurable yield and efficiency gains across primary crops including:
1. Corn with Arginex vs Farmer Standard - grain yield (+4.3%) with 20.0 % less fertiliser
2. Potato with Arginex vs Farmer Standard - +6.4 % higher yield vs untreated control
3. Soy with Arginex vs Farmer Standard - +4.5% - 6.0 % higher yields vs untreated control
"The data show that Arginex consistently improves yield and nitrogen use efficiency, delivering more crop per unit of nitrogen even when total fertilizer inputs are reduced," added Niklas. "That's predictability in action."
The impacts of climate change
The rise of extreme weather events as a result of climate change is also a major concern for growers. A recent study by The European Investment Bank puts agriculture losses from climate change at more than $28 billion a year due to adverse weather including droughts. Arginine-based nutrition improves seedling resilience by developing better root architecture, which gives healthier plants with a higher survival rate under stress and by avoiding harmful nutrient shocks through a stable, low-leaching nitrogen supply.
"Arginex is a high-purity, single-compound formula built on precision and engineered to stay stable, last longer, and perform consistently under changing conditions," continues Niklas.
"This isn't just another input. It's a catalyst and a movement for systemic change: sparking a chain reaction that makes the whole system stronger and helps growers transition away from harmful chemicals," concludes Niklas. "Rooted in science, and proven in the fields, Arevo stands for redefining agriculture from the ground up."
About Arevo:
Rooted in science and built commercially for agriculture, forestry, and horticulture, Arevo's mission is to reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers and support more sustainable cultivation practices with zero nitrogen waste.
Based on decades of research, Arevo's organic nitrogen technology - powered by arginine - enhances a plant's natural ability to absorb nutrients and water, while supporting beneficial soil microbes, resulting in stronger, more resilient plants that can better withstand environmental stresses.
