New use for drones in agriculture will be topic of Warren CC seminar

A precision agriculture seminar focused on the use of drones will be held March 16 at Warren County Community College, a leader in drone training and their use in farming

Experts in the growing field of precision agriculture, which uses drones and sophisticated technology to vastly improve a wide range of farming practices, will offer a one-day seminar on the new techniques on March 16 at Warren County Community College, which has become a national leader in the use of the technology.

The day-long seminar includes separate sessions related to drone use for soil, wildlife, and livestock management and an opportunity for attendees to inspect the equipment, see it operate, and ask questions about how it can be implemented.
"Our drone program, WarrenUAS, has grown to be one of the best in the nation, and we are focusing a lot of attention on their many uses in agriculture," said Warren President Will Austin. "We are finding so many ways that drones can readily serve farmers to improve their practices, and this is an opportunity for us to share some of that knowledge while learning more about how agriculture can use the technology."
Adam Kyle, who heads the precision agriculture department at Warren, says the program will have four different sessions with plenty of opportunity for attendees to ask about the new technology.
"We are learning something new every day and constantly finding techniques for farmers to improve a variety of practices -- everything from testing the condition or moisture level of their soil and the health of their plants to treating very specific land and checking on wildlife damage," Kyle said.  "We're already working now with the agriculture community to find techniques that are practical and can save them money and improve their yield."
WarrenUAS has grown dramatically in the last few years and has become a national leader in uncrewed vehicles, located in two new facilities, and offers the most extensive collections of drones and other robotic equipment at any educational institution in the country and leading experts on its staff.
Precision agriculture has become a focus of WarrenUAS, driven by student interest in the growing field and an agriculture community recognizing the applications of the technology.
"We want to learn from farmers about their needs and pair that with the expertise we are gaining here with this technology," Kyle said. "This seminar is another opportunity for us to provide them with information about the capabilities of uncrewed vehicles and gain a better understanding of what uses they can have in agriculture."

The Seminar will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024. At the Dr. Joseph Warren Robotics Research Center 445 Marshall Street Phillipsburg NJ.
The cost is $25 and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch provided.
